Arts Dream Selsey is offering in collaboration with  'Making Theatre and Gaining Skills ' company a chance for young people 16 and over to be involved in an exciting and dynamic three week summer project, that is free for all participants. The Project will be held at the Academy Selsey from the 18th of July through to August the 6th  10am -4pm daily with some evening performances.
Hilary Strong  the director of the project has her own travelling  theatre! and within the three weeks there are a variety of  options open to you:

Option 1 Sign up for I week -18-23rd of July
Week I is an exciting playwriting challenge that will take place between Tuesday 19th and Friday 22nd July. ‘Arriving at the theatre on their nominated day, each writing team will be presented with copies of random newspapers published that day, denying them any kind of advance preparation. Together, they will select a story, and at 7pm that evening their new ten-minute play will be performed at the theatre by a cast of actors. The final stage of the challenge takes place on Saturday 23rd August, when all four new plays will be performed in one gala evening.’   Director Hilary Strong who will work with each of the four teams during the process said: “This challenge will give local writers and young people  a tremendous opportunity to try something new and different. Writing to a deadline is the best possible way to produce vivid, edgy work which can’t, and doesn’t, play safe.”
Option 2  Sign up for two weeks 25thof July to Saturday the 6th of July
Participants will over the next 2 weeks work on a children’s play to be shown on Friday 5th of August 1.30pm and 3.00pm and on Saturday the 6th of August 11am -2pm
This will be 30-45 minutes in length.
Option 3 Sign up for three weeks and do it all !

The both projects are about giving you a variety of opportunities that develop a range of skills  applicable to    theatre production. So why not try something you have some skills in or do something different.! Very handy for you CV and for a UCAS form application ! So for all three projects we need you to one or a few of the following:

  • Write the plays: Develop your writing skills with lots of support from the project  team
  • Act   in the plays – Have you some acting skills in for example youth theatre at a school or amateur standard? (don’t worry you will not be expected to learn lines in a day – clip boards to the ready !)
  • Work  on the scenic design, designing and painting  the set
  • organise and develop  the video and press side. Film all 3 weeks, liaising  with press, issue press releases etc
  • work technically on the lighting and sound for the project –getting it all organised

Throughout you will be taught and guided by a professional team of Theatre specialist. Lots of opportunity to learn, but stacks of opportunity to have fun!.
